Tanners Walk | Marshfield

Project Description

A single storey rear extension to a detached dwelling in Marshfield, Wiltshire. The project addressed issues with the separated nature of the kitchen and dining room by extending to the rear to create one open plan space overlooking the garden.

Although the property doesn’t lay within the high street area of Marshfield, denoted as part of the original Marshfield conservation area, the projects’ location does have an impact of the wider context of the immediate conservation as a whole. As a consequence, the project required inclusion of detailed historical information to present the extension as an entity sympathetic to the historic nature of its surrounding context.

Natural ‘Cotswold’ stone was used on the majority of the external walls well as natural ‘Cotswold’ stone roof tiles to help tie the extension in with the area. More contemporary dark grey bi-fold aluminium doors were included to complement the natural materials used elsewhere.

Inside presents a vaulted, light, modern space and has been designed with an open plan feel yet splits the open plan feel into two with a central breakfast bar to denote kitchen and dining.
